Pet owners face many challenges in efficiently managing their pet’s health. From fragmented communication with veterinarians, to difficulties in tracking and organizing essential health information.
The wagMD app offers a solution by providing an intuitive, user-friendly experience, that facilitates quick and direct messaging, simple appointment scheduling, and centralizes the tracking of vital pet health information, all in one comprehensive and accessible platform.
The primary objective of this case study is to master the fundamentals of the Design Thinking Process, and implement them effectively through the design of the wagMD app. This will be done through empathizing with pet owner’s needs, ideating innovative solutions, wireframing, prototyping, and iteratively testing to create a user-centric design.
Throughout these case studies, I have followed the Design Thinking Process to create human-centered design through empathy, ideation, prototypes, testing, and iteration to refine our design. This process helps put the needs and experiences of end-users front and center throughout the entire design journey.
User research was gathered through first-hand interviews with a diverse sample of pet owners and veterinarians to gain valuable insights into the needs and pain points of pet owners and veterinarians. After engaging directly with the end-users and professionals in the field, research revealed pain points which were then sorted and grouped into three main topics.
The User Research conducted for wagMD, including interviews with pet owners and veterinarians, formed the foundation for creating detailed personas. These personas ensured that the specific needs, preferences, and pain points were being identified during the research phase.
Creating a clear foundational structure involved the meticulous process of building information architecture, low-fidelity paper wireframes, and digital wireframes and prototypes. This is accomplished through iterative sketching, usability testing, translating those insights into organization and interaction, and gathering feedback.
Low-fidelity wireframes formed the basis for usability testing, allowing us to evaluate the app's structure and functionality with users. This phase provided crucial insights into the effectiveness of the design, leading to refinements that enhanced the overall user experience.
Users were asked to perform tasks in an unmoderated environment, and answer research questions and provide feedback.

The low-fidelity prototypes were translated into more detailed mockups and high-fidelity prototypes based on user feedback gained from Usability Studies, and incorporated more accessibility options while executing User-centric Design Principles.
The transition from high-fidelity mockups to an interactive prototype marks a significant leap in the design process, offering a dynamic and tangible preview of the envisioned user experience. The high-fidelity prototype becomes a bridge between vision and execution, enabling a deeper understanding of the user journey and ensuring that the final product aligns seamlessly with user expectations.
As the journey of designing wagMD wraps-up, I am proud to present a solution that encompasses the needs of pet healthcare. From empathy-based user research and meticulous user journey mapping to the creation of low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes, every step was guided by a commitment to enhancing the bond between pet owners and their furry companions. The result is an intuitive and accessible health app for pets, fostering simple, effective communication, efficient appointment scheduling, and streamlined pet health management.
As a result of this case study, I've learned that the User Experience design process is one that is always growing and evolving. This evolution process is not possible without the user and their feedback at the forefront of our design.
The iterative process is fundamental to the dynamic nature of user experience design. Once the foundation of a seamless, user-centric experience has been established, the journey doesn't end there. The next step we work on will be refinement, iteration, and innovation.
